Your Business NEEDS a Website

Your Business NEEDS a Website

Do you think your business does not need a website? Think again. Your business NEEDS a website. Yes your business may be thriving in social media and you may be making lots of sales but without a website, you are putting your business completely at the mercy of social media and their algorithms. Just last month, Instagram went down for some hours, some businesses began to lose followers and some accounts got hacked off. Imagine if a rival business or aggrieved customer who because of a perceived slight, sends a bad review about your business to Instagram and your account gets taken down? That means your business is over. Without a website, you are just paying rent on the internet and you are at the mercy of your landlord who can wake up one day and tell you to pack out, cut off your water supply, and make things uncomfortable for you. A website is the land you buy, the first online security you can give your business. Social media can drive your business but it is only a plugin for your business online. A website is a land you buy online and you can do anything you want with that land.

Common Excuses

So many small businesses complain that they are small and don’t have a budget for a website, forgetting that website is the number one marketing asset if you decide to put your business online. Websites must not be expensive or fancy, they need to exist if for nothing else but for the SEO. Some business owners may think of giving their company website to a friend to design for free. It’s free but be careful, a lot goes into building not just a website but one that is optimized with optimization features including SEO (Search Engine Optimization), file compression, responsive design, schema markup, etc. If you are going to build a site, build one that will build your business and not give problems to you and customers. In fact, in 2018, 75 percent of people admit to making judgments on a company’s credibility based on website design

97 percent of customers seeking a particular service use Google to search for businesses. People use Google search engine 3.5 billion times a day. Do you think your social media account will show up on that very important first page of Google Search Engine Page? No.  Combine that with the fact that 93 percent of online experiences begin with a search engine while 30 percent automatically strike a business from consideration if they don’t have a website. With a website, you are able to use the Search Engine Optimization so that when customers are searching for your kind of business online and at your location, your website appears first. If you don’t have this already, you are leaving so much money on the table.

By now you know that any Tom, Dick and Harry can open a social media account. There are so many fake, unreliable businesses out there on social media. Customers are looking for trustworthy businesses and one way they determine trust is a website presence.  In fact, in 2018, 75 percent of people admit to making judgments on a company’s credibility based on website design.

So, you think you don’t need a website because you’re on Facebook/Instagram? Well, so is every other business in the world. You need a website even if you have a Facebook/Instagram page. And guess what? It’s getting harder for businesses to connect with users on the platform. Within a week of the last Facebook algorithm update, organic reach plummeted lower than it was already. In 2018, people spent 50 million fewer hours on Facebook than they did in 2017. While social media can help your business grow, don’t bank on using it as your sole marketing channel, especially in the future.

Your business is your brand. In competing markets, you must learn to package your products or services like a brand and sell that brand. People want an emotional connection before they buy. Why do you think Coke spends so much money using popular footballers like Messi to advertise their products? Your first brand is your website. With a website, you can embark on marketing campaigns,  customer service, client relationship building, brand recognition, and almost every other element of the revenue stream. Combining your website with marketing tools, like email marketing, helps you reach new customers and generate repeat business.
